I have been to quite a few Michelin stars - another one only 3 weeks ago.
The positives:
- Ofcourse an unusual setting on a train which is very different than being in a restaurant. We also were in one of the cabins to ourselves so that was good.
- The manager seems very good.
Negatives:
1. The cabin didn't smell rather nice - I know it's old but my partner thought it smelt like dogs.
2. 3 different servers the whole evening - in Michelin star you have 1-2 - ideally kept to one person the whole night not 3.
3. Food at times was cold.
4. There was 2-3 interesting courses the rest I couldn't eat.
5. Staff member asked me ''how would I like my duck'' when I was eating pisctarian menu - I don't eat meat.
6. The interval during courses wasn't consistent - times it was to quick others we were waiting 25mins.
7. When I went to bathroom - waitress serves my main course. I told her she shouldn't be doing that at this level. You wait until I arrive before serving it. It was also cold and had to be sent back.
I personally think it is just an ok dinner - and not Michelin star level. I wouldn't be surprised if it was dropped for next round.
Pullman Restaurant Reviews

Beautiful setting and excellent food. It was a 7-course tasting menu, however after two hours we had only received three courses and ultimately left after the fourth. Unfortunately, the pace of service was far too slow.
Given the size of the kitchen, it may work better to operate with two sittings rather than allowing guests to dine entirely at their own pace. This would likely improve efficiency and allow staff to focus on serving all guests in a more timely and consistent manner.
Five stars for The Pullman. Everything we ate was delicious, and the wine pairing was absolutely perfect. I have been to several prix fixe tasting menus with pairings, and this was easily one of the best.
Huge kudos to the chef and sommelier. I honestly would not change a thing. The team was also very accommodating when there was one item on the menu I did not eat, and the alternative they served was even better, in my opinion.
I also want to personally call out our waitress, Tita. She was top-notch - so knowledgeable, kind, respectful, and thoughtful throughout the entire meal. She knew the food and wine so well that she easily could have been the sommelier herself.
A truly memorable experience and one I would absolutely recommend.
The Pullman is the reason to come to Glenlo Abbey. My wife and I did the tasting menu with the wine pairing and it was faultless from start to finish. The oyster was outstanding, the turbot and the lamb were both cooked perfectly, and the pairings genuinely added to each course rather than just sitting alongside it. The old fashioned to finish was one of the best I have had anywhere.
Ian and the team deserve as much credit as the kitchen. Warm, unhurried hospitality, and service that was precise without ever feeling stiff.
Dining in restored Orient Express carriages could easily be a gimmick. It is not. This is a seriously good restaurant that happens to sit in an extraordinary room. Worth the trip on its own.
We were very excited for our dinner at Pullman given its reputation and the beautiful setting at Glenlo Abbey. Unfortunately, the experience did not come close to justifying the €150+ per person price point.
The Connemara oyster was exceptional and one of the best bites of our Ireland trip. The Cherry & Timut dessert was also very good. Unfortunately, the remaining courses were disappointing. The summer squash lacked appeal, the turbot was forgettable, and the lamb lacked flavor. The Colonel palate cleanser was so unpleasant that my wife spit it out after one bite.
Service was professional and the atmosphere was pleasant, but when paying this kind of price, the food must be the star. Aside from the oyster, very little was memorable for the right reasons.
Glenlo Abbey itself is absolutely beautiful and has been one of the highlights of our trip. Unfortunately, Pullman was the weakest part of our stay.
